In addition to oysters, locally made hot dogs, brauts and a grits will be availableWe are proud that all oysters served at the Smoky Mountain Oyster & Seafood Festival are harvested from North and South Carolina Coastal Waters.

What we do on the land has a direct impact on the quality of our streams and rivers, and ultimately the oceans, where the oysters at the Smoky Mountain Oyster & Seafood Festival come from.  When it rains, chemicals, fertilizer, and other pollutants wash untreated into local storm drains and directly into waterways throughout the Mississippi Water shed.  This “runoff pollution” can be harmful not only to aquatic life like oysters, fish, and crabs, but it poses human health risks too.

Oysters play a key role in helping to restore the Coastal Marshes by filtering water.  One single oyster can clean up to 60 gallons of water every day. More oysters and oyster reefs are needed which is why we’re proudly recycling all the oyster shells from this year’s Smoky Mountain Oyster & Seafood Festival.

It’s important to be good stewards of the land in our daily lives. Doing so is easy and it has an added benefit of saving you money while saving your local streams, rivers, and the Bay downstream. You can learn more at cbf.org.
